Georgia Center of Innovation for Manufacturing Talks “Green Steam” with Miura

Audio Podcast Highlights Energy-Savings and Reduced Emissions of Miura’s Compact, Energy-Efficient, On-Demand Industrial Steam Boilers

ATLANTA, May 12, 2010 – The Georgia Center of Innovation for Manufacturing has posted an audio podcast that examines a new breed of energy-saving, highly efficient, environmentally friendly industrial steam boilers. These boilers are the product of the new $15 million, 100,000 sq. ft. Miura Manufacturing America facility in the Georgia community of Rockmart.
The audio podcast is available online at www.miuraboiler.com/Podcast1.

Miura is a global leader in the manufacture of industrial steam boilers. Miura boilers typically save customers up to 20 percent in fuel savings with their on-demand steam feature (water to steam in five minutes or less), while also conserving resources and reducing emissions (as compared to conventional fire-tube boilers). Miura steam boilers are also far more compact, which saves space and reduces new construction costs.

John Zegers, Director of the Georgia Center of Excellence for Manufacturing, sat down with Mark Utzinger, President of Miura Manufacturing America, and Jason Smith (Miura’s Energy and Environmental Specialist) and discussed the important role Miura boilers can play in helping to reduce pollution and save energy.

They also discussed the positive impact that the new Miura Manufacturing America plant is having on the local Rockmart, Georgia economy. In addition to manufacturing Miura steam boilers, the plant also makes Miura’s BOILERMATE line of eco-friendly water-treatment chemicals.

“We need to be good stewards of our environment,” Smith says during the podcast. “Miura boilers conserve resources and protect the environment with energy-saving modular design, low water consumption (we only use the amount of water required for steam), eco-friendly water treatment that is form-fitted to your water quality, and reduced NOx and CO2 emissions.”

Streamlining manufacturing efficiencies and avoiding waste are major emphases at Miura Manufacturing America.

“At Miura we incorporate green thinking into every step of our manufacturing process, including energy consumption, emissions, water, and waste,” Utzinger confirms. “We follow a key concept called dematerialization, which seeks to reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing processes by replacing hardware with software and control systems, where we can.”

Miura boilers stand at the leading edge of eco-friendly boiler design and make innovative use of microprocessor controls to maximize efficiency and minimize emissions. In Multiple Installation (MI) configurations, Miura boilers can be selectively turned off during low-demand periods, rather than be kept idling. The on-demand steam capability of Miura boilers makes them particularly well-suited to address the varying load conditions of MI environments.
